Amir Farid Abu Hasan currently serves as the Consul General of Malaysia in New York, where he is dedicated to strengthening Malaysia’s presence in one of the world’s most influential cities. His work centers on fostering cultural, economic, and diplomatic ties between Malaysia and the United States, enhancing bilateral relations in key areas such as trade, investment, and community engagement.
In addition to his consular duties, Amir holds the prestigious role of President of the Society of Foreign Consuls in New York (2024/25), where he leads a diverse diplomatic corps to promote collaboration among consulates and strengthen ties with the city. His leadership has been instrumental in addressing shared challenges and advancing diplomatic cooperation.
Amir’s professional journey includes notable postings as First Secretary in Bangkok, Thailand (2011–2015), and Deputy Chief of Mission in Dhaka, Bangladesh (2019–2022). These roles shaped his expertise in diplomatic relations, international collaboration, and public diplomacy.
As Consul General, Amir has championed Malaysia as a premier destination for trade, tourism, and investment, highlighting the nation’s strengths in technology, sustainable development, and regional stability. He has organized cultural events that celebrate Malaysia’s diversity, contributing to its image as a progressive and inclusive nation.

Amir graduated with Honours in Computing (BSc. (Hons) Computing) from the University of Portsmouth, United Kingdom and received a Diploma in Public Administration from the National Institute of Public Administration, Malaysia and Diploma in Diplomacy from the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations, Malaysia. Fluent in Malay and English, Amir is a skilled communicator with expertise in strategic diplomacy and community outreach.
Amir is happily married with three beautiful children (2 girls and 1 boy).
