About

A career diplomat with over 25 years of professional experience, he has held one bilateral and five multilateral positions. In Kuwait (2004-2008), during the Coalition of the Willing intervention in Iraq, where he also served as Focal Point for the NATO-Istanbul Cooperation Initiative. In Brussels, at the Policy Unit of the Council of Europe (2004) and at the European External Action Service – Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Directory (2011-2015), where he built a vast network of contacts across all European institutions; and in Geneva, first as Human Rights Officer (2008-2011), and subsequently as Deputy Permanent Representative of Italy to the WTO (2015-2020). In Paris, where he served as Counsellor at the Permanent Representation of Italy to the OECD and other ICOs, dealing with trade, competition, environment, health (including animal health), public governance, regional and local development, wine and viticulture (OIV), and civil aviation (ECAC).

Finally, in Rome, he served as Head of Unit for Trade Defence and Market Access at the Directorate General for Europe and International Trade Policy. In this capacity, he chaired the G7 Economic Coercion Coordination Platform during the 2024 Italian Presidency. A graduate in Political Science with a specialization in International Relations and Public Affairs, he graduated with honors from the University of Florence with a thesis on Uranium Control as an International Political Problem 1939-1954. He participated in two exchange programs with King’s College London (1997) and Georgetown University in Washington DC (1998). A former officer in the Italian Navy, he is a Fulbrighter (visiting scholar at Columbia University in 2001), a Knight of the Italian Republic since 2017, and has received several scholarships and fellowships from the EUI and the United Nations.

Author of eight articles on the various areas of diplomatic activity covered so far, he is an art enthusiast and enjoys swimming and sailing.

A native Italian speaker, he speaks fluent English and French and has an intermediate knowledge of Spanish.

The Consulate General main objectives are:

Promoting political, economic, education and cultural relations between Italy and any State under its jurisdiction:  Pennsylvania, Delaware, North Carolina, West Virginia, Maryland (except the Counties of Prince George and Montgomery), Virginia (except the Counties of Fairfax and Arlington), New Jersey (only Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Ocean and Salem Counties);

Protecting the interests of Italian citizens while in the above-mentioned territories;

Supporting the Italian community and organizations at large;

Supporting official government and business delegations.

The Consulate General offers the following services:

  • Registration to AIRE, registry of Italian Nationals residing abroad
  • Social services and assistance to Italian citizens
  • Citizenship for those who wants to apply  for Italian citizenship
  • Legal assistance and notary services
  • Electoral services during elections
  • Passports, travel document issued exclusively to those who are already Italian citizens
  • Pensions
  • Vital Records (i.e. marriage) as registration, in Italy, of individuals born abroad
  • Recognition of American diplomas and degrees
  • Visas
